Bernalillo County
Fire Station 66
Albuquerque, NM
In Progress
Vigil & Associates is proud to support Bernalillo County with the design of Fire Station 66, a new facility strategically located to meet the demands of the rapidly growing West Mesa region of Albuquerque. As the area continues to see significant expansion—including new manufacturing, warehousing, and future residential development—the need for enhanced emergency response infrastructure became clear.
Fire Station 66 is designed to ensure faster, more efficient response times across the region, including critical access to Interstate 40. Its highly visible location allows motorists in distress to easily identify the station, creating a vital point of contact for emergencies both on and off the freeway.
This next-generation facility also sets a new standard for Bernalillo County fire stations. Designed with long-term flexibility in mind, the station features 11 bunks and four apparatus bays, accommodating current operational needs while anticipating future growth. The architectural design draws inspiration from the natural forms and earthy tones of the nearby Three Sisters volcanoes, creating a strong sense of place and civic identity at Albuquerque’s western gateway.
Key features of Fire Station 66 include:
• A comfortable dayroom, kitchen, and dining area to support firefighter wellness
• Exercise room and conference room for physical fitness and team coordination
• Nine bunk rooms plus two dedicated officer bunk rooms
• Men’s and women’s restroom and shower facilities
• Walk-in pantry, walk-in refrigerator, and walk-in freezer for extended operational readiness
• Decontamination and wash-down areas to support health and safety protocols
• Dedicated storage rooms including general storage and bunk-specific storage
• Four drive-through apparatus bays to support emergency vehicle access and readiness
• A welcoming outdoor patio space for team relaxation and community engagement
Fire Station 66 represents Bernalillo County’s forward-thinking approach to public safety, resiliency, and community investment.
