Las Cruces Public Schools
Tashiro Operational Complex, Phase 2
Las Cruces, NM
In Progress
Phase 2 of the Las Cruces Public Schools Tashiro Operational Complex expands the district’s centralized operations campus with the construction of three new facilities and supporting site infrastructure. Located on approximately 17 acres of LCPS-owned property at 1600 Tashiro Drive, this phase builds upon the previously completed Food Services Warehouse from Phase 1 and further strengthens the district’s ability to support maintenance, fleet, and operational services.
The project includes new construction of an Administration Building, Trades Shops Building, and Automotive Shop Building, along with an outdoor storage canopy. In addition, minor renovations are incorporated into the existing Food Services Warehouse to improve the IT room. Site improvements include new utilities, roadway access, parking areas, landscaping, and site amenities designed to ensure efficient circulation, security, and long-term functionality across the campus.
Administration Building
The Administration Building serves as the main office and operational hub for the campus. Centrally located on the site with a dedicated drive for employees and visitors, the building provides a clear point of arrival and separation between public and service functions. Visitor parking is located adjacent to the building, while secure, gated parking accommodates employee and fleet vehicles.
Constructed with insulated concrete form (ICF) exterior walls and metal stud interior framing, the two-story facility is designed for durability and energy efficiency. The building houses offices for the Physical Plant Department (PPD) and Construction Management Department (CMD), along with shared support spaces including a conference room and break room. The layout promotes collaboration between departments while maintaining operational security and ease of access for staff and visitors.
Trades Shops Building
Positioned on the west side of the site, the Trades Shops Building provides centralized space for district maintenance and repair operations. The building connects directly to the main parking lot used by employees and fleet vehicles and is adjacent to the loop drive, which includes pull-out parallel parking designed to accommodate large service vehicles.
The structure utilizes tilt-up concrete construction with CMU interior partitions and a single-slope metal roof. The elevated roof height allows for mezzanine storage and enhanced interior flexibility. Roll-up doors line the west side of the building, providing direct access to exterior lay-down and work areas.
Interior spaces are organized by trade and include a Paint Shop and Paint Booth, Carpentry Work Area and Shop, Plumbing Shop, Electrical Shop, HVAC Shop, Welding Shop, and Grounds Shop. The facility is designed to support efficient workflow, safe material handling, and long-term adaptability as district needs evolve.
Automotive Shop Building and Storage Canopy
Located at the northwest corner of the site, the Automotive Shop Building supports maintenance of district fleet vehicles. The two-bay, open-structure tilt-up building includes an office and restroom, with dedicated parking for vehicles undergoing service.
Adjacent to the shop is a covered outdoor storage canopy constructed as a metal awning structure with pull-through access from the loop drive to a secondary drive along the south side of the site. This configuration allows for efficient vehicle circulation and protected storage of equipment and materials.
An additive alternate includes the installation of a photovoltaic array atop the storage canopy. The solar system consists of new photovoltaic panels mounted to a light-gauge structural attachment system, along with inverters and associated equipment. Underground conduit connects the system to the existing Food Services Warehouse, providing an opportunity for on-site renewable energy generation and enhanced sustainability.
Together, the facilities developed in Phase 2 of the Tashiro Operational Complex create a cohesive, purpose-built campus that supports Las Cruces Public Schools’ operational staff and fleet services. The project enhances efficiency, improves working conditions, and provides long-term infrastructure to serve the district’s evolving needs.
