Collet Park Elementary & Kindergarten Building
Albuquerque, NM
2015
Vigil & Associates collaborated with Albuquerque Public Schools to expand the Collet Park Elementary campus with the addition of a new 11,000 SF Kindergarten and Pre-K facility. This standalone building includes four kindergarten classrooms, two Pre-K classrooms, a teacher workroom, dedicated support spaces, and an outdoor “Tot-Lot” play area designed specifically for early learners.
The design process was highly collaborative, incorporating valuable feedback from teachers, staff, and parents to ensure the new building would foster an enriching, developmentally appropriate environment for young students. Key features include ample natural daylighting, universal accessibility, low-maintenance materials, and energy-efficient systems—all contributing to a healthy and sustainable learning space.
The overall campus upgrade was executed in carefully planned phases to minimize disruption. Phase one focused on the new kindergarten wing. In a subsequent phase, the existing administration building was temporarily vacated and housed in portable structures while it underwent extensive renovation and expansion. The final result integrates modern educational needs with thoughtful, student-centered design.
