Coach Archie Duran Elementary School
El Paso, TX
2022
The new Coach Archie Duran Elementary School is a 104,000 sf school that consolidated three existing elementary schools and now serves approximately 900 students. The school is located on the campus of Dowell Elementary and was being constructed while that school remained operational. After the new building was complete, the existing Dowell Elementary was demolished and a new parking lot and play fields were constructed in its place.
• This new school is designed for 21st-century learning, with technology integrated into every classroom and a variety of spaces available for collaborative learning and quiet study.
• STEM programs are a major part of EPISD’s curriculum, so this school is designed with a state-of-the-art science lab and media center. It is set up for robotics in the classroom, makerspaces, and dual-language instruction.
The school is equipped with wireless internet, and all students will have tablets and/or laptops they can use anywhere in the building.
• Each classroom has a teaching wall with an interactive board and lots of storage. Classrooms also have interactive flat-screen monitors connected to the school’s network, and modular furniture that can be easily reconfigured for individual, small-group and large-group activities.
Despite its size, the school is designed as a neighborhood school. It is surrounded by landscaping and has a welcoming entry plaza. The multipurpose center and playgrounds are used by the entire community.
