Fort Stanton Veterans Cemetery Improvements

Fort Stanton, NM

In Progress

Vigil & Associates is proud to partner with the State of New Mexico Department of Veterans Services and the New Mexico Facilities Management Division on improvements to the Fort Stanton Veterans Cemetery in Fort Stanton, New Mexico. This project is focused on expanding burial capacity and enhancing critical site infrastructure to ensure the cemetery continues to serve as a dignified and well-maintained place of honor for New Mexico’s veterans and their families.

The project includes the expansion of the cremains burial field to accommodate a total of 656 new in-ground cremains sites. These improvements are achieved through the enhancement of existing landscaped areas and the development of new irrigated sod fields, increasing the cremains area from approximately 0.474 acres to 0.986 acres. New monument markers will be installed throughout the expanded field to maintain the cemetery’s established character and organization.

In addition to burial expansion, the scope of work includes repairs and upgrades to the existing irrigation and pumping system, ensuring long-term sustainability and reliable water service across the cemetery grounds. Site improvements also include storm drainage enhancements and landscape upgrades to improve functionality, durability, and visitor experience.

Survey monuments will be provided throughout the expanded areas to support accurate site planning and long-term operations. Together, these improvements reinforce Fort Stanton Veterans Cemetery as a place of remembrance and respect — preserving its ability to serve future generations while honoring those who have served.
